Lustmord will perform at Dark Mofo in Hobart, Tasmania on June 12th.
I’m saddened to learn that John Murphy died yesterday.
John was a member of SPK for a while, as well as The Associates, and was an accomplished session drummer working on many sessions in the 1980’s, including The The and Gene Loves Jezebel amongst many others. He went on to be a member or work with many bands and was always a key component.
I met him via SPK and mutual friends David Tibet and John Balance, we became firm friends and recorded Paradise Disowned together before he had to return to Australia.
Years later he married Annie Stubbs, one of my oldest and dearest friends. I got to see them both while I was in Berlin recently and knew his time was very limited but I had been asked to keep it private.
There’s a lot to be said of John, but the gist of it is that he was a truly kind, gentle and humble man.
He lives on in his work, but the world is an emptier place without him.
Images are of John during the recording of Paradise Disowned in January 1984.
The screening will be on Friday November 7th at Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe in Wrocław, between 4pm and 6pm.
Admission is free.
