It's nice to see Aidan Baker's name mentioned; he must be one of the most consistently good artists on the planet.

I agree. He sadly is under the radar more often than not, but like you said...consistently releases quality material. a true shame, but at some point I'm sure he'll get much more praise for his work than he currently receives.

i completely forgot one of my favorites of this past year. paul bradley's notes from the past, which was quite a very short but relaxing ambient excursion into sonic texture. The processed voices through the center till the end of the first piece are distant enough that they are both confusing and comforting. i can't get enough of that portion of the track. minus the voices, the work itself (to me at least) is some what reflective of rdj's selected ambient works II.

I think this guy REALLY goes unnoticed, but hopefully will be more recognized sooner than later.

Wow, I thought that I'd be the only person to list that one . :)

You'll find I had it on my list, as well! Great album.

I, too, forgot to list that one. Great album, Red Sparowes are awesome.

It's great to meet more Red Sparowes fans after years of trying! Every time I mention them, I get blank stares or the eyes of suspicion. I guess the majority of the world doesn't listen to good music.

God, the world needs to listen to better music,. Hahaha.

Something else I completely forgot was The Knife - Silent Shout. Sure, I know its electro-pop - but come on! This album was freakin' amazing as far as pop music goes.

I typically get annoyed by electro-pop these days because its in some way trying to rip off a form of kraftwerk and turn it into kraftwerk meets indie rock, but the knife did it all exactly right.

I don't know of anything to complain about at all about this album, except that they can probably only go down from here...

nothing really blew me away from last year, but there were a couple stand outs. The #1 for me is surely Drumcorps - Grist though. I don't know why some of you are listing releases that aren't from 2006 though :) Pain:Noise:March and Bodycage for example.

Drumcorps - Grist
Woburn House - Message To Ourselves Outside The Dreaming Machine
Max Richter - Songs From Before
Arktau Eos - Mirrorion
Bass Communion - Loss
Johann Johannsson - IBM 1401 - A User's Manual
Eluvium - When I Live by the Garden and the Sea

Surprised at the number of post-metal fans around here.
