Does anyone have expereince of using granular synths?
Any recommendations for particular ones?

Try this one... http://www.lownorth.nl/software/rtgs/rtgs-info.htmlThis is a standalone application ie not a plug-in or VSTi. I have the OS9 and OSX versions and it's a lot of fun and you can do a helluva lot with it. Like most synths you need to spend a fair amount of time experimenting with it but if you put the work in you will get results. The best part for me is that it does everything in real time. You can load in an audio file and then manipulate it in real time and record the output. Hope this helps  Dean

Camel Audios Alchemy synth has some great granular tools aswell as subtractive and additive synthesis. It is a really deep synth. Not too expensive either considering what it can do.

The cool thing about MAX is that standalone instruments can be built that can be ran without having MAX installed. So I have a granular standalone a friend put together in MAX called Invigorator, which is a modified version of Noboyasu Sakodna's Granular 2.5.
