I second the Belgian and German brew being 'best' overall , in what i've ever tasted ... The Belgian beers are a whole other beast compared to anything else usually ...
Make sure you try St. Bernardus and Westvleteren 12 (Belgian dark ales.)
Whollllyyyyy shit, are they good .

Top 3 of Belgian Beers, first two are Trappist beers

1 Westvleteren 12 (Yellow Cap)
2 Westmalle Tripel
3 Delirium Tremens

also recommended

Westmalle Dubbel
Corsendonk Agnus

Never drink Trappist beers ice cold...it kills the flavor...12 to 14 degrees centigrade should be about right.

BTW...house breweries that produce non-pasturised beers often deliver superior products.

Whenever you visit the city of Antwerp, check out 't Pakhuis

http://www.pakhuis.info/talenkeuze.html

one of their beers is called "a frightening one" ...its glorious

Enjoy

Jacques

speaking of Belgian - no love from anyone on Duvel?

thats one of the best, most flavorful beers I've had in my life. Tried it once, ordered two cases the next afternoon. seriously.

Now that is a beer you drink ice, ice cold...perfect for hot summer nights...you do need the genuine duvel glass to fully appreciate it...great with chasers but sure to deliver a nasty hangover

really? i do keep mine super ice cold, and pour it just perfectly - but i consider it more of a desert beer i suppose, i'll have two or three and be totally set for the night. i don't ever have hangovers from them, but i don't over do it either AND i usually don't drink anything after them. they're close to 9% alcohol if i remember right, which is what - two or three typical american beers? pretty impressive, and with the amazing taste - you'd never know!

I'm a man of very simple tastes. Rolling Rock.

I had to kick to booze habit though. I like beer a little too much for my own good.

Tuborg. Simple.

And relevant to this season, their Christmas brew.

Probably New Castle Brown Ale followed by Samuel Adam's Summer Ale.

Hertog Jan

It's dutch beer, and the best beer i have ever tasted.

Sad that Heineken is so popular, shittiest beer in holland IMO.

Reccomend everyone to try it, trust me you won't regret it. :)
